LAHORE, May 16: The Punjab Mines and Minerals Department has disbursed Rs11 million compensation among families of mine workers in 180 cases during the past two years. This was disclosed during a meeting held here on Monday with Punjab Mines and Minerals Minister Muhammad Sibtain Khan in the chair to review the progress of disposal of the cases of payment of compensation to the families of mine workers meeting with accidents at work.

The minister was informed that only 15 cases were pending with the department. More than 15,000 inspections of mines had been undertaken during the past two years and eight workers had been rescued during accidents at mines.

The minister ordered immediate disposal of the pending cases and payment of compensation to the workers. — Reporter
