RAWALPINDI: An intelligence agency and police have asked the managements of commercial banks to deploy well-trained security guards and install special alarm systems at their ATM booths to avert theft of cash.

At a recent meeting of the director Intelligence Bureau, the city police officer (CPO) and administrations of banks, the incidents of theft of cash from ATMs and preventive measures put in place by the banks were reviewed.

Though it is the prime duty of the police, CPO Israr Ahmed Abbasi termed the security arrangements put in place by the bank managements unsatisfactory.

He said guards deployed by the banks were untrained and most of them were over-aged.

The CPO told the meeting that as per government directives, the security guards of banks must be less than 48 years of age and properly trained to handle any untoward situation.

The IB’s official suggested installing high quality CCTV cameras and alarm systems besides deployment of trained security guards in the ATM booths.
