ABBOTTABAD, May 14: Amir Atlas continued his winning streak as he joined Khayal Muhammad and Arshad Iqbal Burki for a berth in the semifinal of the President PSF Cup squash to be played on Sunday. Amir outscored Khalid Atlas 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 in a closely-fought quarterfinal while Khayal Muhammad defeated Majid Khan in a five-game battle 8-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 11-10.

Arshad Iqbal Burki outplayed Safeer 11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9.

Amir of Mari Gas who ousted last year’s runner-up and favourite Shamsul Islam in pre-quarters yesterday was in aggressive mood against his elder brother Adil Atlas and only took 29 minutes to dispose him of by 3-0.

Amir was too quick for his brother. He kept attacking with long rallies and calculated drops displaying fine wristwork. Adil made frantic attempts to resist but failed since Amir did not give him any room.

The second quarterfinal saw one of longest matches of the tournament in which the players remained on the court for 93 minutes. The two players were locked at 6-6, 7-7, 8-8, 10-10 before Khayal snatched the game.

Clash between Majid and Khayal proved a real fight. On the run of play, both were good. Their sizzling shots and long rallies drew thunders of applause from the spectators.

Deadly drops by Majid forced Khayal to show more briskness and stamina.

The last match of the day between Furrukh Zaman and Saeed Hassan was in progress till the filing of this report.
