HARIPUR, May 13: Tehsil Nazim Iftikhar Ahmad Khan has been nominated in an FIR for injuring two persons in Khalabat township on Thursday evening. However, he managed to get a bail before arrest till May 25. The Khalabat township police quoted one Malik Khan Afsar of sector 4, as saying that he was standing at a shop near his house when the nazim, accompanied by one Mazhar Hayat Khan and a bearded man, came in a car and opened fire injuring him and his friend, Arshad. The injured men were taken to the DHQ hospital where they were reported to be in a stable condition.

Tehsil Nazim Iftikhar Ahmad Khan had survived an attempt on his life when some assailants had opened fire on him on the night between Aug 18 and 19 last year. The police had then arrested two Afghan refugees who confessed their crime and said that they were hired to assassinate him by one Malik Khan Afsar and an MMA leader Syed Alamzeb Shah. Mr Shah was absolved of the charges by a police inquiry, while Mr Afsar was on bail.

The police had, however, registered a case against Nazim Iftikhar Ahmad Khan, Mazhar Hayat and their unknown accomplice under sections 324/34 PPC in the Thursday firing incident. Whereas the nazim was able to get a bail before arrest from the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mohammad Yusuf Khan, till May 25.

Meanwhile, the nazim, at a news conference, denied the charges and termed it a conspiracy against him. He said that he was at his office at the time of the incident.

He claimed that a number of naib-nazims and officials of the TMA were witness to his presence at the TMA office till 5.15 pm on Thursday. He demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.
