ISLAMABAD: Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday dropped the contempt case against journalist and television anchor Matiullah Jan and the management of Waqt TV over the contents of a talk show aired earlier this month.

Justice Siddiqui, in a short order, stated that the proceedings had been dropped “by showing grace and kindness”.

During the hearing, the Waqt TV management — including Chief Executive Officer Rameeza Majid Nizami and its Islamabad bureau chief Sardar Hameed — tendered an unconditional apology to the court.

Matiullah Jan, in an undertaking, said he regretted airing unverified information in Apna Apna Gareban, a talk show, on Feb 5. He assured the court that he would exercise caution in future, especially during programmes related to the judiciary.
