Engineers’ plight

A CLICHE that BEs (Bachelors of Engineering) are actually ‘berozgar’ engineers seems to have become a bitter truth since hundreds of graduates are knocking at every door for a decent job, but returning with humiliating internships.

Recently, government medical colleges in Balochistan announced several contract-based posts of ‘demonstrators’ for fresh MBBS graduates, with a decent salary of Rs2,50,000. And the selection process was over within a couple of months.

Meanwhile, the Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology, Khuzdar (the only government engineering university in Balochistan), also advertised for the appointment of contract-based posts of ‘lecturers’ for fresh graduates and masters. But the advertised salaries were rather a joke. A fresh MBBS graduate will get Rs250,000, a fresh engineering graduate will get Rs25,000 and a master’s degree holder will get only only Rs35,000 as salary.

The government ought to keep in mind the interests of the youth in engineering sciences.
