KARACHI: A large number of people including women and children demonstrated outside the office of Nadra off Amir Khusro Road here on Tuesday.

The protest was organised by the Jamaat-i-Islami against the federal institution which, the party claimed, was creating hurdles for the common man to obtain a computerised national identity card.

Speaking on the occasion, JI’s Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman vowed to continue their struggle until the federal government and Nadra authorities make the process of obtaining a CNIC easier for the citizens.

“It’s an open secret that the officials of Nadra have been using unfair means to increase the miseries of people,” he said.

“The federal interior minister and Nadra chief do not pay heed to people’s complaints. People with certain backgrounds are mainly targeted and deprived of their national identity despite meeting all requirements and fulfilling all formalities.”
