PESHAWAR, May 12: The International Committee of the Red Cross has sought the help of the provincial government in carrying out its welfare activities and assured that the ICRC will provide medical treatment to 250 prisoners released from Guantanamo Bay. Pierre Tchaikowski, head of an ICRC team, called on Chief Minister Akram Durrani at the Frontier House here on Wednesday apprised him of the performance and activities of his organization, said a handout.

The chief minister said the NWFP government had provided equal funding to all members and the protection and repair of worship places of all minorities was government’s responsibility.

He referred to the Jails Reforms in the form of giving relaxation to prisoners, providing clothes and food, inducting prisoners in the jails food management committee.

He said that the NWFP government was also planning to construct additional cottages in the central jails wherein the prisoners would be allowed to meet their families once in three-month time for a period of five days.

He said that all equipments have been provided to the jail hospitals. He was using his discretionary grant to help the physically disabled people who lost their limbs in incidents, he added.

The chief minister also requested the ICRC regional head to help provide artificial limbs for disabled people.
