ISLAMABAD: Islamabad United mentor Waqar Younis on Thursday said that Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches should also be held in Rawalpindi, hours before his side played Quetta Gladiators in an HBL All-Star Muqabla exhibition match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

“In the fourth edition of the PSL, the Pindi Stadium should be utilised as a venue for matches,” the legendary paceman said sitting alongside United captain Misbah-ul-Haq and owner Ali Naqvi. “This exhibition match should be a trailer for that.”

The match was played amid much fanfare and razzmatazz of top-notch artists as former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and former captain Moin Khan were amongst the stars who featured.

Misbah said his side was focused on the third edition of the glitzy T20 league which begins from February 22 in Dubai. This year Karachi will become the second local venue when it stages the final on March 25 after Lahore hosted the showpiece match of the previous edition.

“The PSL has produced several stars and in the future, more players will emerge,” Misbah said.

United owner Naqvi hailed the decision to hold this season’s final in Karachi and reiterated Waqar’s stance that Pindi should be considered as a venue in the future.

“If the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants to use the Pindi Stadium in the fourth edition, I’m ready to help in the renovation of the venue,” he said.
