RAHIM YAR KHAN: District Police Officer (DPO) Zeeshan Asghar suspended a traffic police constable for allegedly stopping the son of a PML-N MNA at a non-functional traffic signal here on Monday.

According to eyewitnesses, Ahmed Imtiaz, the son of Mian Imtiaz Ahmed, was on his way to Adda Khanpur on Makhdoom Altaf Road when Constable Atta Muhammad signalled some vehicles, including Ahmed’s, to stop. Ahmed allegedly did not stop and hit the constable, but due to slow speed of the car the constable remained unhurt.

Later, Ahmed misbehaved and exchanged harsh words with the constable and introduced himself as an MNA’s son.

Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Shahnawaz Chachar, who was passing by with his convoy, took Ahmed to the city police station A division for registration of a case. But allegedly the MNA called the DPO and told him that Ahmed was his son and that no case should be registered against him.

Ahmed was released, but Constable Muhammad was suspended from service and sent to police lines.

DPO’s spokesman Zeeshan Randhawa told Dawn through a WhatsApp message that the constable had been suspended for misbehaving with a citizen, Ahmed Imtiaz, and an inquiry had been initiated. Ahmed was crossing the traffic signal along with other people, he added.
