PESHAWAR, Jan 7: Sikandar Khan Sherpao, son of NWFP former chief minister Aftab Ahmad Sherpao, has criticized the government for not allowing PPP workers to enter the Peshawar airport to welcome their leader on his return from London on Sunday.
Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, he said, “The government should have welcomed his father on his return from abroad as the country facing a crucial test of its history needs sound politicians, but instead the government prevented his supporters to receive him at the airport.”
Sikandar Sherpao said that in the current situation when the country was at a crossroads, his father could play a vital role to pull the nation out of the crises.
He observed that there was a big gap between the military regime and the masses and only Mr Sherpao could bridge the gap.
Instead of promoting unity and national reconciliation, the government had adopted an indifferent attitude towards politicians and political workers, he said, adding that the PPP had constituted a panel of lawyers to appear for Mr Sherpao in the accountability court.
UTILITY BILLS: Residents of Lakki Marwat district have appealed to the Governor State Bank of Pakistan to allow and authorize all banks and financial institutions to receive utility bills as the service is presently only being extended by National Bank, adds APP.
According to a news dispatch, people of Lakki Marwat are facing hardship in submission of utility bills as except National Bank, no other bank was extending this service.
Apart from official engagements, the nine-member staff of NBP Lakki Marwat branch has to deal with thousands of telephone bills, salary of 6,000 male and 4,000 female teachers, 3,500 pensioners and 4,500 electricity bills.
