DERA GHAZI KHAN, May 11: Cases were registered against 36 lawyers including president, vice-president and general secretary of the District Bar Association for storming the DPO office here on Wednesday. After a scuffle between a lawyer and a constable in the court of special judicial magistrate, lawyers tried to fight with the naib court who took refuge in the record room of DPO office, while district bar association lodged writ petition against the DPO, ASI and constable against their highhandedness towards lawyers.

It is learnt that Advocate Ghulam Mustafa and naib court constable Sanaullah Khan had a scuffle after which other lawyers present in the court tried to beat the constable who took refuge in the record room of DPO. The lawyers tried to break the door which was locked from inside and raised slogans against police.

DBA president Malik Faiz and other office-bearers tried to settle the matter between the lawyer and naib court and asked the angry lawyers not to take law into their hands and directed them to adopt legal way to settle the dispute.

Meanwhile, Civil Lines police registered a case against 36 lawyers, 11 nominated and 25 unidentified. The nominated accused are Malik Faiz, general secretary Saeed Akhtar, vice-president Mahmood Nawaz, Massod Shah, Ghulam Mustafa, Younis Khattak, Haq Nawaz, Tahir Abdullah, Musarrat Dasti, former president of the bar Rao Ejaz and city PPP president Behram Buzdar.

Mr Malik told Dawn that a writ petition against DPO Sulaiman Chaudhry, ASI Mohyuddin and Constable Sanaullah had been lodged and the additional sessions judge had sought a report from the DPO.

He said the DBA would observe complete strike against the behaviour of the police.
