KARACHI, May 11: Sindh Minister for Labour, Transport, Trade and Industry Adil Siddiqui on Wednesday ordered shifting of more than 200 illegal inter-city bus terminuses outside the city with immediate effect. Presiding over a meeting in his office, the minister said that the government had already allocated required land for establishing bus terminuses outside Karachi and called for proper utilization of it in the best interest of the public.

He invited the petroleum companies to share responsibilities and assist the government in providing necessary facilities to the passengers at the new terminuses.

He said the shifting of these terminuses would end the existing congestion and improve the traffic system.

The minister said the government had established a bus terminus at an eight-acre plot near Hinopak in SITE and all the Balochistan-bound buses would leave from there. “All the spaces allocated for bus terminuses have required building structure, however the oil companies willing to provide facilities to the passengers could undertake more construction as per their requirement,” he added.

The minister further said that Sharea Faisal was being declared as a model highway where surveillance cameras would be installed and bus-lane system strictly observed. The Sindh governor would soon visit the Sharea to initiate the work.

He asked the secretary for transport to immediately contact the provincial law department for setting up traffic courts in all the former five districts of Karachi.
