KHAR: A tribal elder was killed in a remote-controlled explosion in Bajaur Agency’s Nawagai tehsil on Wednesday, local administration officials said.

They said the incident took place in the hilly Hilal Khel area of Charmang valley, near the Pak-Afghan border, some 25 kilometres northwest of Khar, the headquarters of the tribal agency.

Officials quoted the local residents as saying that Malik Farooq Khan was going to a nearby bazaar from his house in a vehicle when he was targeted with a remote-controlled bomb on the road.

The blast critically injured the elder who was immediately shifted to the agency headquarters hospital, Khar, by local people.

Medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Mohammad Noor told reporters on Wednesday evening that the injured elder died while being taken to a hospital in Peshawar.

After the blast, local residents and a team of security forces reached the spot to trace the attackers, however, no one was arrested till filling of this report on Wednesday evening.

Later, the local administration with the help of Levies personnel launched a search operation in the area to arrest the miscreants.
