TIMERGARA: The Wardak tribe on Monday vowed to defend the country’s frontiers against any foreign aggression.
The announcement was made during a convention of the tribe held at Zwall Baba near Timergara here. The event was chaired by Mir Qasim Wardak, elder of the tribe from Balochistan.
Hundreds of Wardak tribesmen from Lower and Upper Dir, Swat, Buner, Islamabad and Quetta attended the convention.
Former senator Faseehuddin Wardak, Mir Qasim Wardak, Ahmad Riaz Wardak, Attaullah Khan Wardak, Mohammad Ilyas Wardak, Munda Tehsil Nazim Humayun Khan and others spoke on the occasion.
Poets and literati shed light on the history of Wardak tribe and its migration to Pakistan. They said that a province in the name of Maidan Wardak still existed in Afghanistan.
The speakers said that forefathers of the tribe migrated from Afghanistan centuries ago and settled in different areas of Pakistan.
They said that Wardak tribesmen had been residing in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kashmir and India.
The speakers said the tribesmen should feel proud as they had a bright history of bravery, courage and wisdom. They asked the participants to include ‘Wardak’ part of their names in the national identity cards for their separate identity.
EYE UNIT OPENS: The Al-Khidmat Foundation, Lower Dir chapter, on Monday inaugurated an eye care unit at its hospital at Zwal Baba.
JI lawmaker Izazul Mulk Afkari along with AKF district president Engr Yaqub ur Rehman and JI Timergara emir Malik Sher Bahadar inaugurated the eye unit.
On the occasion, Izazul Mulk and others said the AKF had been providing free healthcare and education facilities to the downtrodden.
They said the AKF while keeping in view the growing number of eye patients in Dir decided to set up a unit for them. They said that a specialist doctor would examine eye patients free of cost at the facility on Mondays and Tuesdays.
