RAHIM YAR KHAN, May 10: A 25-foot wide breach occurred in 4/L canal on Tuesday. The gushing water inundated many villages and damaged crops on hundreds of acres of land. The worst-hit villages are Basti Araian, Basti Allah Bachaya and Basti Hamsheera. The water washed away harvested wheat crop.

Area people told this correspondent that the contractor who built a bridge on the canal near Khanbela left its edges open which allowed water to damage the dyke causing the breach.

People plugged the breach after several hours’ struggle.

MPA’S HOUSE ROBBED: Two masked men reportedly robbed the house of PPPP MPA Sheikh Aziz Aslam in Mahmood Colony on Monday night.

The MPA said the robbers locked his wife in a room and took his 16-year-old son Adnan at gunpoint.

They beat Adnan, collected gold jewellery worth Rs150,000 and Rs25,000 in cash and fled from the scene.

It is learnt that the residents of the colony sought a police investigation cell team which was passing by to help the family but they refused advising them to report the matter to the area police.

Later, city DSP and B-division police SHO reached the spot.
