MIRPURKHAS, May 10: Over 200 farmers of the tail-end area of the Dilery distributary, fed by the Jamrao Canal, held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Tuesday against closure of the distributary. They carried banners and placards and raised slogans against the SDO, irrigation, Kot Ghulam Mohammad sub-division.

Talking to protesters, Mohammad Saleem and Iftikhar Ahmad said the SDO had closed their distributary without informing them which had caused farmers huge losses because most of them could not sow cotton and other crops.

They accused irrigation officials of demanding bribe from farmers for release of their share of water. They regretted that water was not reaching tail-end areas and villagers were facing drinking water shortage.—BoC
