LAKKI MARWAT: Activists of various political and civil society organisations held a demonstration in Naurang town on Tuesday to record their protest against the killing of a student of Ayub Medical College Abbotabad, Asma Rani, in Kohat on Jan 28. The traders also kept their shops closed and took part in the demonstration.

The girl student was killed in Kohat reportedly on refusal of her parents to give her hand to Mujahidullah Afridi, the alleged killer. She was buried in Dheri graveyard near Naurang Town on Monday.

Mujahid Afridi fled Saudi Arabia while his brother Sadiqullah Afridi, also nominated in FIR, has been arrested by the police.

In Naurang town, the protesters partially blocked the Bannu-DI Khan portion of GT Road against the killing of the student, who belonged to Lakki Marwat. They carried banners inscribed with demands for hanging the killers in public.

The speakers criticised the police for their failure to arrest the killer identified by the student in her dying statement.

Meanwhile, lawyers boycotted courts on Tuesday to record their protest against the killing of the female student, Asma Rani. The protest call was given by the district bar association and the lawyers did not appear before courts for hearing of cases.

The office-bearers of the bar association demanded of the government to arrest her killers without any delay.
