RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) is planning to utilise a vacant plot near Metro Bus Control and Cammand Centre building for parking.

A senior official of the RCB told Dawn that the plot fell under the control of military. The parking will be for visitors to Saddar bazaars.

The senior official said permission had been sought from station headquarters through Station Commander who is president of the RCB.

He said there was a need to provide a separate place to visitors to the bazaars to park their cars and motorcycles, as at present the visitors had no option but to park their vehicles on the roadsides.

He said the RCB had already converted a vacant plot on Haider Road in front of Ciros Cinema for car parking but it did not fulfill the requirement. He said that the RCB had tried to regulate the traffic in coordination with Traffic police but failed to solve the issue.

The official said the RCB was also planning to start crackdown on the commercial plazas which had not allocated area for parking.

On the other hand, Cantonment Traders Association President Zafar Qadari said that the civic body should end the encroachments from the footpaths and the roadsides and utilize the vacant plot for parking purposes.
