ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Humanitarian Pooled Fund (PHPF) administered by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (Ocha) will grant $7.5 million to facilitate the return of displaced families to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

Almost 93 per cent of the displaced families have returned to their homes, while a total of 29,000 families are expected to return during this year.

According to an Ocha document released on Friday, the PHPF will allot a total of $7.5m under the ‘First Standard Allocation 2018’, representing 7pc of the total $110m for the first year of the humanitarian fund.

The fund was requested under the three-year Fata transition plan humanitarian activities 2018-2020.

The new allocation includes the reserve allocation of $900,000 from 2017, $4m from the Department for International Development (DFID); $2m from Swedish International Development Agency; and $1.34m from cancelled projects of 2016 and 2017.

Based upon the interim vulnerability assessment report and the analysis of the humanitarian context in Fata, the PHPF advisory board reached a consensus to address three sectors — health, shelter and water, and sanitation and hygiene.
