LAYYAH: A youngster was killed while another suffered injuries when the building of the newly-constructed water filtration plant collapsed during its inauguration ceremony here on Thursday in Lohanch Nashaib.

A non-governmental organisation - Hong Kong Islamic Youth Association - had initiated a programme to provide potable water to residents of rural areas. The organisation got a water filtration plant constructed in Union Council Lohanch Nashaib.

During the inauguration ceremony when the water was released into the filtration plant the water tank collapsed as substandard material had been used in its construction. The debris fell on 14- year-old Muhammad Sudaif Khan, killing him on the spot. NGO representative Muhammad Hassan Jhakar suffered critical injuries and was referred to Lahore after first aid at THQ hospital

RAPIST PENALISED: The additional district and sessions judge on Thursday handed down 25-year rigorous punishment to a man in a rape case at Kunal Nashaib.

In 2015, suspect Pervaiz trapped a five-year-old girl and [allegedly] raped her. The medical examination held at DHQ hospital established that she was raped.

Saddar police had registered a case 179/15 under section 376 of PPC against the accused on July 5, 2015.

The case was heard by Additional District and Sessions Judge Zaffarullah Niazi who announced the verdict on Thursday.

The culprit was handed down 25-year rigorous imprisonment along with Rs200,000 fine.
