PESHAWAR: The provincial chapter of Young Doctors Association has threatened to announce a strike if authorities fail to arrest the killers of Dr Khurshid Alam Afridi within two weeks.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, YDA provincial spokesman Dr Muhadis Ahmad said that Dr Khurshid Alam Afridi, an eye specialist at Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar, was stabbed to death by unidentified persons in Charsadda district a month ago but his killers were not arrested.
He said that murder of Dr Khurshid Alam created unrest among the doctors in the province.
He said that provincial government, hospital administration and police had assured them that the killers would be arrested within two weeks. However, he said, police didn’t take action to arrest the killers.
Dr Muhadis said that provincial government and police were using delaying tactics to arrest the killers of the doctor.
He said that in the past too police used delaying tactics to investigate many incidents of kidnapping for ransom and murders of doctors in the province.
Flanked by YDA president Dr Rizwan Kundi, Dr Zahid Alam, brother of Dr Khurshid Alam, Dr Imdad Khan, Dr Khayal Afridi and others, he said that it was duty of the provincial government to protect life and property of people.
He demanded of the government to take effective steps for security and safety of doctors.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rizwan Kundi alleged that Charsadda district police officer was not cooperating in apprehending the persons involved in the murder of Dr Khurshid Alam.
He said that doctors would not tolerate any delaying tactics in arrest of the killers of their colleague.
He said that Dr Khurshid Alam had no enmity with anyone.
Dr Rizwan demanded of the government and police to arrest the killers within two weeks otherwise they would have the only option to go on strike and hold protest demonstrations. He also appealed to the chief justice of Peshawar High Court to take suo motu notice of the murder of Dr Khurshid Alam.
