PESHAWAR: The 90th birth anniversary of former prime minister and founder of Pakistan Peoples Party, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was celebrated by the party workers in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.

In Peshawar, at least three cake-cutting ceremonies were held wherein the participants recalled the services of the party’s founding chairman for the country and vowed to fulfil his mission of public welfare.

One event was held at Ring Road where party’s district president Saeed Ahmed Khan and deputy information secretary Misbahuddin paid homage to the former premier and said that he offered sacrifice of his life, but did not bow down before dictator Ziaul Haq.

They urged the workers to strengthen the party in respective areas to fulfil the mission of the party’s founder.

They claimed that PPP would succeed to form governments in the centre and in all the provinces as a result of next general elections.

Another function was held at the residence of Salman Orakzai wherein MPA Ziaullah Afridi, Iqbal Mohmand and Zulfiqar Afghani highlighted sacrifices of the party leadership for development of the country and strengthening of democracy.

Mr Afghani said that the credit went to PPP leadership which always focused on solution of problems confronted by the downtrodden and poverty-stricken people in the country.

He said that the PPP leadership had never succumbed to pressure and injustices of dictators.

PPP women wing also arranged a function to celebrate ZAB’s birth anniversary wherein provincial president MPA Nighat Orakzai and general secretary Shazia Tehmas said that it was ZA Bhutto who enabled women, farmers and labourers to take stand for acceptance of their genuine demands and raise voice for their rights.

They said that Bhutto had given the Constitution to the country.

Meanwhile, PPP provincial finance secretary Farzand Ali at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club said on Friday that Jan 5 was a historic day for the workers to renew the pledge for cementing their association with PPP.

Condemning late General Ziaul Haq for toppling the elected government of PPP and hanging ZA Bhutto, he said that the military dictator had deprived the country of a dynamic leader.

He hoped that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would fulfill the mission of the PPP founder.

In Lower Dir, Pakistan Peoples Party, Lower Dir, on Friday observed the 90th birth anniversary of the party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Different functions in this regard were held at Munda, Maidan and Timergara.

The function in Timergara was addressed by former provincial minister Mehmood Zeb and information secretary Alam Zeb. The district bar also observed ZAB’s birth anniversary.

The bar president Jehan Bahadar and other lawyers paid tribute to ZA Bhutto, saying that the PPP founder had politically freed the country and the state from slavery.

In Lakki Marwat, PPP district chapter held a function in Tajazai to mark ZAB’s birth anniversary.

District nazim Iqbal Hussain and party’s general secretary Qismatullah cut the birthday cake and highlighted the achievements of PPP-led governments. Such functions were also held in other districts of the province where the local leaders highlighted sacrifices of the PPP leaders for democracy.
