Gujranwala boys lead

LAHORE, May 4: Gujranwala with 16 points lead in the first Punjab Sports Board under-17 athletics championships after three more finals were decided on Wednesday. Sargodha (15) are placed second while Lahore, Sialkot and Sahiwal with 14 points each are joint third.

Wajahat Ejaz gave Gujranwala their first gold in high jump leaping to 1.75 metres. Saud Asghar (Lahore) and Muhammad Shahbaz (Sahiwal) earned second and third spots.

Muhammad Khalid (Sialkot) claimed shot putt final with a throw to 16.36 metres distance. Shahzad Khan (Gujranwala) and Sajid Naveed (Vehari) came second and third. Abdul Malik grabbed a gold for Jhang in 3,000 metres final covering the distance in nine minutes 13.11 seconds.

RESULTS:

High jump: Wajahat Ejaz 1.75 m, Saud Asghar (Lahore) 1.72 m, Muhammad Shahbaz (Sahiwal) 1.65 m.

Shot putt: Muhammad Khalid (Sialkot) 16.36m, Shahzad Khan (Gujranwala) 14.10m, Sajid Naveed (Vehari) 13.97 m.

3000 metres: Abdul Malik (Jhang) 9.13.11 sec, Muhammad Mushtaq (Bhakkar) 9.4.26 sec, Qamar Zaman (Sahiwal) 9.22.30 sec.
