KARACHI, May 4: The Pakistan Telecommunication Unions Action Committee held a protest demo in front of Karachi Press Club against the privatization of PTCL and announced starting a protest movement against it.

The protest rally began from CTO building and workers marched towards the KPC. A large number of PTCL workers and leaders of unions from different cities participated in the rally and shouted slogans against the privatization proposal.

They announced to hold rallies in other parts of the country as well. The union leaders said that black flags would be hoisted on the buildings from May 5 to May 9 in the whole country and workers would wear armbands, while a big rally would be taken out on May 10. They further said that protest demonstrations would be hold in Lahore, Quetta, Karachi, Peshawar and Islamabad on May 12, 16, 18, 23 and 25 respectively.

The committee also warned that if the decision to privatize the PTCL was not withdrawn, the workers would jam the communication system of the country and besiege the PTCL headquarters.—PPI
