RAWALPINDI: As many as 996 foreigners, including 527 Indians, one Saudi and two Chinese nationals, have been languishing in various jails across the country.

In a written reply to a question by Jamaat-i-Islami MNA Aisha Syed, the interior ministry said that the foreigners languishing in Pakistani jails were involved in various crimes, including terrorism, murder, drug smuggling and illegal entry to Pakistan.

A senior official of the Prison Department of Punjab said that 60 foreigners had been imprisoned in Central Jail, Adiala, in connection with various crimes. He, however, said that no Saudi or Chinese national had been languishing there.
