KARACHI, Dec 14: Pakistan routed Malaysia 4-1 in a friendly match at Hockey Club of Pakistan on Sunday.

Penalty corner specialist Sohail Abbas, who had been off- colour during the triangular series involving Seniors, Juniors and Malaysia, returned to score twice from six short corners against the visitors having nine juniors.

Both Sohail and midfielder Waseem Ahmad, who were rested by coach Roelant Oltmans in the last match of the series against Malaysia on Saturday, also played.

Goalkeeper Ahmad Alam, who had first opted to skip the training camp, complaining “back pain”, also stood under the bar.

The home side made an impact when they grabbed an early lead through Sohail, converting a short corner in the 12 minutes into the game.

Salim Khalid doubled the lead slotting home in the 20th minute, while Sohail was again on target just four minutes later.

Having a convincing 3-0 advantage, the Pakistanis came into the second half to complete the tally through Mudassir Ali Khan in the 42nd minute.

Azlan bin Misron got some consolation for the Malaysians by finding the cage in the 51st minute.

The Malaysians leave Sunday midnight for Spain to play a match against the Spanish side and four matches against local clubs in Madrid before returning back to Kuala Lumpur to feature in Jan 8 to 18 Azlan Shah Cup.
