Unconvincing victory for BD ‘A’

KARACHI, Dec 14: Bangladesh ‘A’ launched their Patron’s Cup campaign with an unconvincing 35-run win over Defence Housing Authority (DHA) at National Stadium on Sunday.

Asif Zakir made a 99-ball 60, after struggling for 21 deliveries before opening his account.

Rajin Saleh, who did so well on the tour of Pakistan not long ago, and fellow off-spinner Jamaluddin Babu shared the spoils with three wickets each under their belts.

The tourists posted a moderate total of 217 for seven, after skipper Mushfiqur Rahman had called correctly at the toss, against the weakest side in this group.

Shahriar Hossain, currently out of favour with the national selectors back home, played the major innings of the day by scoring 78 out of 157 when he was run out. Hannan Sarkar, now firmly settled in the senior side, struck four boundaries in scoring 34 during a first-wicket stand of 70 in 87 balls.

Shahriar’s 135-ball knock contained five fours and two sixes.
