HYDERABAD, Oct 20: A large number of peasants under the banner of Azad Hari Union of Sindh staged a sit-in outside the local press club on Monday to condemn police torture on 13 peasants, including Mannu Bheel.

Speaking on the occasion, president AHUS Master Lal Jee, general secretary Ahmed Dars, coordinator of HRCP Special Task Force for Sindh Nasreen Shakeel Pathan, Jam Saqi and Aftab Ahmed criticized the Qasimabad police for kidnapping and torturing the peasants.

They said the police had failed to arrest feudal lord Abdur Rehman Mari who had allegedly kidnapped nine members of Mannu Bheel’s family.

They demanded deterrent punishment to police officials of the Qasimabad police station and registration of an FIR against them.

They warned that a series of protest demonstrations would be held throughout Sindh, if justice was not restored to Mr Bheel.

SNP: Activists of Sindh National Party, led by its chairman, Amir Bhambhro staged a sit-in outside the DPO office in support of Mannu Bheel.

Speaking on the occasion, Amir Bhambhro condemned police excesses against the peasants.
