BAHAWALPUR: The Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) has postponed its demonstration to be held in front of Civil Secretariat in Lahore on Nov 29 for the acceptance of their demands, including upward revision of their pay scales.

This was announced by PPLA Bahawalpur Chapter president Rafique Leghari here on Sunday.

According to Mr Leghari, the postponement of the demo in Lahore has been announced after consultation among the members of the PPLA’s executive council in view of the law and order situation prevailing in the country.

He told Dawn on cell phone that the PPLA executive council would meet in Lahore on Dec 6, hopefully after returning of normalcy in the country, particularly in Punjab. The body in its meeting would decide the next date of its demonstration in consultation with its other divisional chapters.

Appreciating the participation of the teachers fraternity in the on-going protest on the PPLA’s call, he said the Punjab government would have to accept their ‘just’ demands.

He said the PPLA would continue its movement in a peaceful manner.

The PPLA members are daily observing one-hour strike, besides taking out rallies, for the acceptance of their demands.
