BADIN, Aug 28: The chairman, Sindh National Front, Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, has said the statement of President Gen Pervez Musharraf, claiming that construction of the Kalabagh Dam and greater Thal canal would benefit Sindh, carries no weight and if the rulers were interested in the prosperity of Sindh, they should construct dams in Sindh where the need for water is high.

He was talking to newsmen on Thursday after offering condolence with Nabi Bux Khan Bhurgari on the death of his son.

He also held a meeting of party workers.

He said that there was no democracy as the army was ruling the country.

He said that President Gen Musharraf was exerting pressure for construction of the dam but he would have to concede to the people’s wishes.

Referring to the LFO and the president’s uniform, the SNF chief said that “the death sentence was the punishment” for a man who had toppled an elected government during 1999 and violated the Constitution, and added that the parliamentarians should raise this issue first, while the LFO and uniform were issues which could be dealt with later.

He said Badin had always been hit by calamities and to prevent disasters, a dyke like that in Holland be constructed.

CONCERN EXPRESSED: The District Relief Committee, Badin, has expressed concern over the attitude of the representative, flood commission, who avoided to meet with the members of the committee during his visit to Badin on Thursday.
