MIRPURKHAS, Aug 28: Hundreds of villagers blocked the main road of Samaro town after a teenaged boy committed suicide to protest the arrests of his father and elder brother by the Samaro police on Wednesday evening.

The Samaro police had arrested Umer Nohani and his son, Abdul Ghafoor, following a dispute with their relatives. The dispute was, however, privately settled.

Jakhro, 18, the younger son of Umer Nohani contacted the Samaro police to ascertain the reasons leading to the arrest of his father and elder brother, but the police allegedly demanded bribe for their release.

Following his failure to get his father and brother released and meet the demand of the police, Jakhro committed. He was taken to the taluka hospital in critical condition where he died.

Hundreds of relatives of the dead teenager and others placed the body at the main bus stop and blocked the Kot Ghulam Mohammad-Samaro road, leading to suspension of traffic.

The protesters raised slogans against the Samaro police and demanded that the provincial police officer, Sindh, and the regional police officer, Hyderabad, order the registration of a murder case against the police officials who had allegedly demanded Rs12,000 as bribe for the release of the detained persons.

The taluka police officer, Samaro, Allah Dino Khaskheli, and other elected representatives rushed to the spot and after being assured of justice, the protesters dispersed peacefully.

CONVICTED: Second additional sessions judge, Aftab Ahmed Bughio, has awarded capital punishment to accused Ghanwar Khan Kanyo in a murder case and life imprisonment to co-accused Noor Mohammad and Nizamuddin. The court also fined them Rs50,000, half of which would be paid to the heirs of the victim.
