KARACHI: Man acquitted in arms case

KARACHI, Aug 28: The district and sessions judge, South, Agha Rafique Ahmed Khan, acquitted on Thursday a man charged with possessing illegal weapons.

The judge exonerated Mohammed Anees Abu Bakar from the charges as the prosecution could not prove its case.

According to the prosecution, the accused was arrested by the police and during interrogation he led the police to the Memon Plaza, Garden, where the police seized a Kalashnikov rifle, a repeater and several live bullets.

He was booked in the case on December 18, 2000.

ROBBER: The same court convicted a robber and sentenced him to suffer rigorous imprisonment for five years.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs30,000 on Nisar, who along with an absconding accused, Riyaz alias Zulfi, had snatched Rs10,000 at gunpoint from Faisal Khan, the salesman of a juice company, near Kala Pull in the limits of the Frere police.

CONVICTED: The additional district and sessions judge, South, Abrar Hussain F. Memon, sentenced a man to suffer a five-year term fro possessing heroin.

Accused Adil was arrested with 20 grams of the drug on May 4, 1999 by the Chakiwara police. The judge also fined him Rs5,000.
