Encroachments

Published November 21, 2017

IT is not the responsibility of the police alone to remove encroachment; the task must be carried out jointly by various civic agencies.

It will be a more effective approach if agencies concerned are asked to resolve the issue on a permanent basis rather than repeat the exercise after every few months.

The fact that these encroachments appear after a couple of weeks/months is simply because of corruption, and all are involved, including the police.

Encroachments are not only in the shape of extended building structures but illegal occupation of space on roads and under flyovers by mini-trucks, Suzukis, qingqis and fruit vendors.

One just needs to visit Lahore and see the difference in the upkeep of roads and spaces under flyovers. I am sure the Sindh government and all agencies know how to get rid of this menace provided there is a will to do so.
