KARACHI: Monday’s session of the Sindh Assembly was adjourned within minutes to facilitate lawmakers, mostly belonging to the ruling party, to visit Hala to attend the second death anniversary of veteran politician Makhdoom Amin Fahim.

Only Education Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar and Health Minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro were present when the house was called to order at 11.10am after a two-day break by Deputy Speaker Syeda Shehla Raza.

After recitation of Quran and fateha, Dr Mandhro drew the attention of the chair about the observance of the second death anniversary of the late PPP leader in his ancestral hometown of Hala. He said lawmakers wanted to attend the event to pay their respects to their party leader and it would be appropriate to adjourn the session till Tuesday.

The deputy speaker adjourned the sitting till Tuesday (today).

Later, Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Khwaja Izharul Hasan paid rich tributes to late Amin Fahim and told media that he was a towering and respectable politician of the country.

He said that it would have been more appropriate if the house met, instead of adjourning the session, and lawmakers were given an opportunity to speak on his struggle and to pay their respects and tributes to the late leader.

In reply to a question regarding the performance of the Sindh government, he said one could assess the government’s so-called performance from the reports of death of children for want of food in Thar, where even clean drinking water was not available to the people.
