QUETTA: A district and sessions court granted Nawabzada Gazain Marri bail in the Justice Nawaz Marri murder case on Thursday.

However, the former home minister was not released as there are several other cases pending against him. On Thursday, Judge Rashid Mehmood granted the son of the late Baloch politician Nawab Khair Baksh Marri bail against a surety bond worth Rs1 million.Mr Marri, who returned to Pakistan in September after 18 years in self-exile, was nominated along with others in the Justice Nawaz Marri murder case. The deceased judge was killed in 2000 on Zarghoon Road on his way to the high court.

The former home minister returned from the UAE only after receiving protective bail from the Sindh High Court. He was, however, arrested soon after he landed at Quetta airport due to several cases against him. His lawyers filed an application for the confirmation of the protective bail but the court rejected the application.

They filed a new bail application in the district and sessions court of Judge Mehmood. Advocate Arbab Tahir and Kamran Murtaza argued on behalf of Mr Marri. After the arguments were completed, the court accepted the application and granted Mr Marri bail.
