RAWALPINDI, Aug 27: The district development committee on Wednesday accorded administrative approval of development schemes, worth Rs10 million, recommended by the members of the provincial assembly.

This amount would be spent on repairs and construction of new roads, pavement of streets and drilling of tubewells to overcome water shortage.

The MPAs have been given a grant of Rs5 million each under Tameer-i-Punjab programme. However, the spending of this grant is subject to the approval of the district development committee, a component of the local government.

The district development committee, which met here to discuss the projects, was informed that Union Council No 3, covering Mohallah Quaidabad, Moti Mosque, Liaquat Road, Lunda Bazaar and Arya Mohallah, would get tubewells. Whereas, construction of roads would be undertaken in union councils 30, 31, 32, 42, 43 and 44 including the areas of Bagh Sardaran, Dhoke Dalal and Jamia Masjid Road.

District Coordination Officer Hamid Ali Khan directed the officials to carry out technical scrutiny of the projects so that loopholes could be identified and overcome immediately.

Speaking at the meeting, MPA Chaudhry Kamran Aslam called for maintaining proper statistical record of these projects and their timely completion. He said the officials concerned should personally visit the project site for their improved monitoring.
