ISLAMABAD, Aug 27: The Central Board of Revenue has extended sales tax amnesty to taxable services as well to facilitate taxpayers in discharging their outstanding tax liabilities.

The government through an SRO500 issued on June 7, 2003, had given amnesty to four categories of persons from the payment of additional tax subject to certain conditions and payment of arrears by Sept 30, 2003.

However, this exemption was restricted to only the persons making supply of taxable goods. The various trade bodies and associations approached the CBR asking for extension of the facility to the providers of taxable services.

The CBR through instruction No 22 of 2003 issued on Wednesday, extended the amnesty to providers of taxable services also by virtue of section 3 (3) of the four provincial sales tax ordinances 2000 and the Islamabad Capital Territory (Tax on Services), Ordinance, 2001.

Now the enrolled/registered persons providing or rendering taxable services could also benefit from the amnesty scheme, which was earlier restricted to enrolled/registered persons making taxable goods.
