KARACHI: City Mayor Wasim Akhtar on Tuesday directed the veterinary services department to take necessary measures to prevent illegal slaughtering of animals in the city under the Animal Slaughtering Control Act and ensure supply of clean and hygienic meat to citizens through KMC slaughterhouse and 26 meat markets.

Presiding over a meeting of veterinary services department, he said that to meet the needs of the city, a new slaughterhouse had been planned near Northern Bypass in Orangi with capacity of slaughtering 3,000 big animals per day.

He said meat van and container system would be introduced in the city to ensure safe and proper delivery of meat from slaughterhouse.

He directed that recovery of licence fee from meat and poultry shops must be ensured on timely basis and the staff deputed for this should be directed to perform their duty properly.
