TIMERGARA: The newly-posted Vice Chancellor of the University of Malakand Prof Gul Zaman on Friday said collective efforts of media, faculty and students could positively affect local economy.

Talking to reporters at his office, he said he would utilise all available resources to bring the varsity on a par with advanced educational institutions. He said the varsity had been facing some serious challenges but he was committed to overcoming them.

He said it was the age of media and communication and the world powers had been forwarding their agendas through media. He said the varsity would organise joint seminars and workshops for its journalism department and local press clubs. He asked the journalists to cooperate with university management in highlighting problems facing the students.

CAR STOLEN: Auto thieves lifted the car of a student of the University of Malakand from the main Ramora road in the jurisdiction of Chakdara police station on Friday.

The student, Mohammad Arsalan of Shah Alam Baba village told police that he parked his car outside the varsity in the morning and went for classes. He said his car was missing when he returned. The police registered a case and started investigation.

GAS CONNECTIONS: Awami National Party central spokesman Zahid Khan inaugurated a gas supply project to Timergara Shiekhan locality during a function on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said his party would make no alliance with other parties in the 2018 general elections. He said Rs6 billion was being spent on supply of natural gas to parts of Lower Dir. He claimed the ANP would win majority of seats in the next general elections and form government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

CLEANLINESS DRIVE LAUNCHED: The tehsil municipal administration launched cleanliness campaign in Balambat the other day.

An awareness walk in this regard was also held in Rabat Bazaar where the participants carrying banners and placards highlighted the importance of pollution-free environment.

Balambat tehsil nazim Imranuddin led the walk, participated by councillor Shad Nawaz, TMO Shafiq Ahmad and local traders and elders.
