KARACHI: Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) in Sindh on Tuesday organised a demonstration against the longstanding issues of doctors, which, it warned, could spark closures of hospital across the province if not seriously considered by the Sindh government.
Scores of doctors hailing from various districts of the province participated in the demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club.
They were holding placards inscribed with their demands.
“These demands should be taken seriously by the government, otherwise, mounting frustration among the fraternity could force them to stop working at their facilities,” said Dr Qaiser Sajjad, secretary general, PMA.
The demands included implementation on orders by the Supreme Court in which pro-forma promotions of doctors retired since Aug 7, 2015, are ordered.
They also demanded time-scale promotions for doctors’ general and special cadres and dental surgeons.
Other demands included regularisation of all doctors of the health department as well as working in all projects or programmes, and enhancement of salaries and all allowances of doctors at par with other provinces of Pakistan and Islamabad. They also demanded that doctors working in rural districts of Sindh be provided postgraduate opportunities on priority basis.
