RAHIM YAR KHAN: A sessions judge has sentenced a man to life imprisonment on a charge of posting blasphemous content on social media.
Spokesperson for the district police officer Umar Saleem quoted Station House Officer of Saddar police station, Sadiqabad, Abdul Hadi, as saying that a complaint had been lodged in July last year against the convict for Facebook posts that hurt the emotions and feelings of the Muslims.
The police registered an FIR on the basis of the complaint and the trial — held inside the district jail for security reasons — started two months ago.
On Saturday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Khursheed Ahmed Anjum announced the decision, awarding life imprisonment with a Rs1 million fine.
