DHAKA: In what was probably their best display of the event, Pakistan outplayed South Korea 6-3 with Ajaz Ahmed netting a hat-trick in the third-place play-off in the Hockey Asia Cup here at the Maulana Bhashani Stadium on Sunday.

After Ajaz scored with an opportunistic effort in the 10th minute, Korea levelled five minutes later through Cho Sook Hun before Rashid and Ajaz scored to make it 3-1 at the end of the first half.

Abu Bakr added a fourth from a penalty corner before Ajaz completed his hat trick with another field goal.

Korea threatened a comeback with goals by Lee Namyong and Soo Inwoo but Azfar Yaqoob sealed the victory for the Greenshirts.

Later in the final, India ended a 10-year wait for the continental crown when they beat Malaysia 2-1.
