LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General (IG) of Police retired Capt Arif Nawaz on Saturday placed six district police officers (DPOs) and 30 other senior police officers on the disposal of Lahore police for security of the Sri Lankan cricket team.

The DPOs included Liaquat Ali Malik from Jhang, Mustansar Feroz from Chiniot, Umar Saeed Malik from Vehari, Zahid Nawaz Marwat from Khanewal, Haroon Joya from Chakwal, and Abadat Nisar from Attock.

Similarly, five DSPs each have been dispatched from Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Multan as well as from Sheikhupura, Sahiwal and Rawalpindi, an official told Dawn.

He said these police officers have been directed to report to the capital city police officer for their next assignment of providing security to the cricket matches from Oct 28 to 30.

In addition, the official said, the IG has also issued orders to dispatch 200 police reserves to the provincial capital for security of cricket teams, including 150 reserves from 15 districts and 50 from Farooqabad.

The force shall be dispatched under the command of a focal person (senor police officer) who shall be responsible for the discipline of the employees. The force should be moved back to their parent units after completion of the duty on Oct 30 and transport should be arranged by respective regions and districts.

Meanwhile, the IG laid foundation stone of the new office of Sheikhpura regional police officer (RPO). RPO Zulfiqar Hameed was using a rented building for official work for several many years.

According to a handout issued here on Saturday, the RPO after assuming charge a few weeks back had made stringent efforts and got four-kanal official land approved for the construction of the new office.
