LAKKI MARWAT: Elders and local government representatives from various rural localities have threatened to launch agitation if unscheduled electricity loadshedding is not stopped immediately.

The warning came at a meeting held Zangikhel village on Saturday. Elders and local bodies’ members from Zangikhel, Mela Mandrakhel, Kakkakhel, Matora and other villages participated.

The participants alleged that local Pesco employees were involved in deliberately shutting power supply to their villages.

The Pesco staffers suspend electricity supply by dropping power links on the main transmission line of Ghaznikhel-1 feeder, they alleged, but lamented that the district government and local administration were not taking action against the responsible people.

They also criticised Pesco for failing to curb power theft and resorting to illegal loadshedding to cover the losses.

They said prolonged power outages had resulted into acute water shortage in the rural localities as tube-wells ran on electricity.

The elders warned the people would take to the roads if unscheduled loadshedding was not ended.

MURDER SOLVED: Police on Saturday claimed to have solved a blind murder case and arrested a man for killing his father.

On Sept 16, Gul Rehman was killed at midnight by unknown culprits in Michenkhel locality of Lakki city, said an official, adding the killer had escaped while the wife of the deceased had lodged FIR against unidentified killers in Lakki police station.

He said the complainant told police that her husband had no enmity with anyone. The official said police investigators learnt that a close relative of the deceased was involved in his killing.

With the help of technology the investigators detected the crime and found that Naqeebullah murdered his father, he said, adding police arrested the killer and recovered a pistol from him.

SCHOOLS TOURNAMENT: Several government run schools won their matches in Lakki zone under district high and higher secondary schools tournament on Saturday.

District education officer Abdus Salam told reporters that students participated in cricket, football, volleyball, badminton and other games.

He said the high and higher secondary schools had been divided into five zones to provide the students with maximum opportunities of taking part in sports.

Meanwhile, DEO Salam chaired a meeting on Saturday to finalise arrangements for holding district primary schools tournament.

The meeting decided that circle level competitions among primary schools would start from Nov 1 and conclude on Nov 10.
