TAXILA: A man died and his son was injured during an attempted robbery near the AC cement factory in the Hassanabdal police area on Friday.
Police and hospital sources said Mohammad Rafeeq and his son, Mohammad Faizan, were hearing towards the factory on a motorcycle when two masked individuals on a motorcycle intercepted them and attempted to rob them at gunpoint.
The robbers opened fire when Rafeeq resisted, shooting both. Rafeeq died as a result of the bullet injuries, while his son has been admitted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
Acting Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Syed Ali led the investigation into the shooting, but a search conducted by Wah Cantt and Hassanabdal police did not locate the suspects.
The body of the deceased has handed over for burial after an autopsy, and Hassanabdal police have registered a case and begun investigation.
Expat robbed
An expatriate was robbed of foreign currency and valuables by individuals impersonating security officials in the limits of the Taxila police station on Friday.
The victim, Mohammad Arshaf, told police he was travelling to his native area in a car after landing at Benazir Bhutto International Airport from Saudi Arabia. He said four people from a security agency carrying wireless sets and weapons intercepted them on the G.T. Road at gunpoint and robbed them foreign and local currency as well as other valuables.
Police registered an FIR against the robbers and began investigating, but there have no arrests or recoveries of stolen items so far.
