Haley’s balderdash

Published October 21, 2017

PLEASE refer to Nikki Haley’ US envoy to the UN’s remarks: “U.S. seeks India’s help to keep an eye on Pakistan”. To address her concerns it needs to be recalled that it was the United States which created the terrorists here to counter the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

This has been attested to by Hilary Clinton (Dawn, April 25, 2009) and Larry Pressler, (Neighbours in Arms). The school books to indoctrinate jihadis were published by the University of Nebraska. On page 25 of this book, Pressler avers that at that time the U.S. actively helped Pakistan acquire nuclear weapons.

This only confirms what Richard Barlow (Dawn, May 4, 2007] and Andrew Cockburn (Dawn, July 29, 2009) had revealed. Chuck Hagel had his confirmation as Defence Secretary delayed for saying that India fostered trouble for Pakistan through Afghanistan. The same report says that Christine C Fair was heckled for making the same point (Dawn, Feb 27, 2013).

Pakistan is a democracy because it has shown the door to two prime ministers with no damage to the constitutional system. If India is a democracy ask it to answer Dana Rohrabacher’s question why it doesn’t allow a plebiscite in Kashmir (Dawn, Oct 31 2003). Who is going to keep an eye on Afghanistan, which -- with U.S. troops on its soil -- was unable to stop children’s massacre in a Peshawar school and a bomb blast at a Quetta hospital?
