Pak Army team strikes gold in Exercise Cambrian Patrol competition

The Pakistan Army team secured a gold medal in the Exercise Cambrian Patrol competition held in the United Kingdom this month, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.
This is the second successive medal Pakistan has won in the yearly exercise, while procuring four medals in total.
A total of 131 army teams from across the world participated in the event.
Known as one of the toughest patrolling tests for military personnel, the Cambrian Patrol makes its participating units cover a 80-kilometre course in less than 48 hours while performing numerous types of military exercises placed throughout the rugged Cambrian Mountains and mid-Wales.
The Cambrian Patrol is a physically challenging and arduous exercise which gauges participants' teamwork skills in difficult conditions.
Amid tactical and technical challenges, the participants are tested for leadership, self-discipline, courage and determination, reads the ISPR statement.

It's because of these soldiers that Pakistan survives today. There may be questions around senior brass getting excessively involved in politics, business and land acquisition, but these soldiers and officers who form the bulk of the army are the true warriors of our nation, and their reputation is impeccable. One little thing that was omitted:
The Cambrian Patrol is not a competition. Gold (75 percent), silver (65-74 percent) and bronze (55-64 percent) medals are awarded based on the number of points earned on completion of the gruelling course. Certificates are awarded to teams that finish with lower than 55 percent of the points.

Comments provide a very amusing read. Perhaps the ambiguity in reporting this story leads to most readers assuming it came first. Infact most armies get gold, but it goes unreported elsewhere, they dont go holding a ticker tape parade.

"The Cambrian Patrol is an exercise and not a competition. It is conducted for the benefit of units and there is no final order of merit. The exercise is designed to be within the capability of any well-led and well-trained patrol from any Arm or Service. The exercise is the same for Regular and Reserve Forces and also draws participants from foreign countries."

@M.Mudassir Siddiqui Politicians are not ideal because military interfaces with the political process. If and when we get complete democracy in Pakistan, the same political parties will behave. No problem.

But pakistan Army team is the only one...which has three years consecutive golds...
Securing gold % is no small feat...as evident from result..

the Pak Army for securing a gold medal is competition amongst 131 armies of the world, the Exercise Cambrian Petrol, is most difficult exercise, as explained in instant article, be it Cambodia or African peace missions, Pak Army did the best.

I am surprised at the poor reporting by Dawn. There are no medals as this is NOT a competition but just an exercise. Anyone scoring over 75 points out of hundred are considered Gold level and most of the participants score at this level. There are also Silver, Bronze and Certificate levels. Most professional armies are EXPECTED to finish at Gold level.

Which means only this year we scored over 75 points out of 100 to awarded 'Gold Medal'. The others we only got medals but scored below 64 points or below.
