PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak will formally inaugurate the construction work on the Bus Rapid Transit project today (Thursday).

A function to this respect will be held at the Motorway Junction near the Northern Bypass, according to a statement issued here on Wednesday.

The mega project of estimated cost of Rs57 billion would be completed within a record period of six months.

The 26-kilometre rapid bus transit system would start from Chamkani via GT Road to Hayatabad.

The plan would have 300 luxury buses which would have special compartments for women. About 500,000 passengers would have the opportunity to travel in the luxury buses every day.

Keeping in view the possible inconvenience to the citizens a traffic plan has also been devised to mitigate problems of the people. During the work on the RBT the traffic would be put on a single road. On the busy routes like GT Road, Charsadda Road, Dalazak Road and Pajagai Road, the traffic would be diverted.

The motorists coming from Nowshera will use Ring Road and those intending to enter the main city would go on the link road along Afridi Garhi via Gulbahar Canal, Lahori Chowk, Nishtarabad and Anum Sanum Chowk.
