17 officials jailed for corruption

MUZAFFARABAD, Jan 5: AJK Ehtesab Court NO II on Saturday, convicted five former heads of Mirpur Municipal Corporation and 12 officials, most of them still in service, for financial irregularities and misuse of power.

The court, headed by judge Raja Ashraf Kiani, sentenced former mayors: Chaudhry Khalid, Chaudhry Ashraf, Chaudhry Razzaq; ex-chairman Chaudhry Rafiq and former administrator Abdul Qayyum Qamar to one-year simple imprisonment each in two different cases.

The other 12 officials, who served as executive engineer, sub engineer or estate officer in the corporation, were also awarded similar punishment. All of them were present in the court when the judge announced his decision in Mirpur.
